Lakeview Commons is the new amphitheatre created by the City of South Lake Tahoe. Located at El Dorado Beach, in the Al Tahoe neighborhood, it used to be a pile of rocks with a very small beach area and a lot of soil erosion.

Lakeview Commons still has a lot of rocks but they have been artifully formed into a series of steps creating a walkway and terraces, perfect for watching a concert, fireworks, paddleboard contest, or the sunset on the lake.

In an attempt to get people to actually see the new amphitheatre, the city has put together a free, outdoor concert series, plus events meant to create participation.  Last night, there was a standup paddleboard race.  Tonight, there’s a reggae concert.  The concerts start at 4 pm and run until 7:30 pm.

The concert lineup is as follows:

July 12 – Keyser Soze       Raggae

July 19 – 40 Watt Hype     Latin Fusion

July 26 – Huckley              Blues

August 2 – Congress        Rock

August 9 – Forrest Day    Blues/Jazz/Rock

August 16 – The Polyrhythmics    World

August 23 – The New World Jazz Project    Jazz (you probably guessed that)

August 30 – tbd

September 6 – tbd

So this is an easy thing.  Park in the city lot, free, pack a dinner from home, kinda free, listen to music, free, and watch the lake, priceless.  Guys, this could be the perfect first date if you’re on a budget although you will have to be a little creative with the dinner. But seriously, if you’re looking for something fun but casual and low key, take in the new Lakeview Commons.
