The Celebrity Golf Championship comes to town!

It’s hard to believe but it’s time for the 28th Annual American Century Celebrity Golf Championship.  It is always a fun event and attracts lots of people,  not just visitors but locals too.  It has been called the #1 celebrity sports event in the country.  Add the beauty of Lake Tahoe and it is not to be missed.

The celebrities themselves make it fun.  Don’t these guys look like they’re having fun?  It doesn’t matter whether they are from sports, politics, film, or television, they are very entertaining.  There are the usual cast of characters coming.  Sir Charles (Barkley) will be holding court as usual, showing off his signature not-to-be missed swing.  The Lake Tahoe locals have a soft spot for Charles Barkley.  He has always been very generous to this community, especially during the Angora Fire.

Steph Curry from the Warriors (that would be the World Championship Warriors), Justin Timberlake, Tony Romo, and Larry the Cable Guy are coming.  Bode Miller, Kevin Nealon, Ray Romano and Al Michaels will make an appearance.  After decades of just men, the Tournament finally started asking women to attend.  Representing the ladies side of things will be Lisa Cornwell, Blair O’Neal, Paige Spiranac (who is actually a professional golfer) and Kathryn Tappen.  The 17th hole is the entertainment center for the course, so if you want to see your favorite players in their most entertaining self, that is the place to be.

Held at the Edgewood Golf Course, the Tahoe South Celebrity-Am Shotgun Start begins at 8:30 am.  Practice rounds start on Tuesday afternoon, July 11 and end on Wednesday.  The Celeb-Am Tournament, which is different, starts early Thursday morning.  The Championship starts on Friday, July 14 and goes until the final round is played on Sunday, July 16.

NBCSports will have a big presence as they will be filming the event.  It’s kinda fun to watch your community on tv. It’s more fun to be there, but if you can’t make it, you can still catch parts of it on NBC starting on Friday.

Gates open for ticket sales at 7 am each day, cash or credit cards only.  No admission or ticket sales after 4 pm Tuesday or Thursday or after 2 pm Friday through Sunday.  Pay attention, if you purchase a daily ticket you cannot re-enter the course if you leave.  So be prepared to hang out.
